Solstice Walk 2026

For this year’s Solstice I had the pleasure of once again contributing to a collective walking-art project initiated by artist Kel Portman, bringing together artists from across the world through the shared act of walking.

Under the provocation Watching Sunstead: Observations made while walking on the Longest/Shortest Day, artists walked on the June Solstice — the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere and the shortest in the Southern — each responding to their own place, light and landscape.

For my contribution, Culloden Solstice 2026, I walked through the meadows of Culloden Estate, paying attention to the extraordinary diversity of plants flowering there at that particular moment. I photographed and named what I encountered, gathering a single stem of each into a bouquet — a temporary portrait of a meadow, a walk and a moment in the turning year.

The collective film brings these separate walks and observations together across distance, connected by a single day and the movement of the sun. A link of the full film by all the contributing artists can be found here, and my part walking around the medows below.

My great thanks go to Kel who helped me a lot putting this little movie together. In fact probably the first film I made on imovie.
